ARTECOM: art, technology, and community in dialogue

ARTECOM: art, technology, and community in dialogue

The ARTECOM – ARt, TEchnology and COMmunity project transforms the city of L’Aquila into a widespread cultural laboratory, with digital multimedia installations integrated into the urban fabric.

Promoted by the University of L’Aquila in collaboration with the University of Teramo and the Alfredo Casella Conservatory, the project aims to foster social and cultural inclusion through creative music, with a particular focus on adolescents.

The digital installations, based on artificial intelligence, offer educational, free, and inclusive experiences, making the city’s cultural heritage accessible to everyone. The project stands out for its use of immersive soundscapes and personalized musical creations: electroacoustic tracks composed by the musicians of the “A. Casella” Conservatory, based on recordings made directly in the city, create an emotional and social dialogue between the installation and its audience, stimulating creativity and personality development among young people.

At the heart of this process, these personalities emerge and become active instruments in the creation of new works, expressing both the individual and the community of young participants, thus acting as vehicles of dialogue, participation, and social inclusion.

Main objectives:

  • Cultural inclusion: making art accessible and engaging for all, with a special focus on adolescents.
  • Technological innovation: integrating AI and advanced digital technologies for interactive artistic experiences.
  • Active participation: stimulating citizen engagement and fostering a direct relationship with urban heritage.
  • Territorial valorization: transforming L’Aquila into a model of a cultural smart city, where art and technology enhance social cohesion and create new cultural opportunities.

ARTECOM is not just an artistic or technological project: it is an immersive experience that transforms urban space into a laboratory of participatory culture, stimulating young people’s creativity and strengthening the connection between the community and the city.

CUEIM’s role:

CUEIM tells the story of ARTECOM and spreads its results beyond local borders through its network of universities, research centers, and public and private institutions. It supports communication activities, website management, and international networking, creating connections with new European stakeholders and contributing to the development of international partnerships focused on youth inclusion and the replicability of the model in other cities.

In this sense, inspired by the ARTECOM experience, CUEIM works to capitalize its results, transforming the cultural and technological innovation developed in L’Aquila into new European project opportunities. Through this approach, CUEIM promotes the replicability of digital installations, educational pathways, and inclusive artistic practices, fostering youth engagement and social cohesion in new urban and rural contexts, exploring and rediscovering the project’s potential for future development opportunities.
