The event opened with the welcome speech of Gaetano Zarlenga, Managing Director at CUEIM, who acknowledged all partners for their commitment and active collaboration demonstrated during initial project stages and shared the relevance and research objectives of the project with all the attendees. The greetings of Domenico Mauriello (Unioncamere) followed, who expressed the interest of the Union in the project. The presence of Vincent Ernoux, Coordinator of the ENI CBC Med Programme, was deeply welcome. Besides illustrating the most technical, administrative and financial issues related to the project, he underlined the particular interest of the programme in the thematic of artisanal salinas, being a new topic for the program itself. After having given a general overview of MedArtSal, Martina Vallerotonda, Project Manager at CUEIM, gave the floor to the project and associated partners who illustrated their organizations’ experiences and introduced their own teams. The event also dedicated a session to the activation of potential synergies within MedArtSal and other two ENI CBC Med’s projects (CoEVOLVE4BG e Organic ecosystem) having the same or similar project thematic area. The purpose is to encourage initiatives\u00a0and collaborations within the project aimed to strengthen the links\u00a0between research, institutions and private sector to support artisanal salinas and salt producers, small and medium enterprises and local communities from the Mediterranean region.<\/p>\n

MedArtSal in a nutshell<\/strong><\/p>\n

MedArtSal – sustainable management model for Mediterranean Artisanal Salinas<\/strong> is funded by the European Union under the ENI CBC Med Programme. The project total budget is \u20ac 3.2 million and the EU contribution is \u20ac 2.9 million (90%). MedArtSal is a 3 year-project that aims to promote the sustainable development of the Artisanal Salinas, providing concrete support on economic, environmental and governance issues related to salt production. Addressing common challenges in four Mediterranean regions (Italy, Spain, Lebanon and Tunisia), it will promote the development of a sustainable and adaptable management model fostering the territorial valorisation of artisanal salinas.<\/p>\n

The project is led by CUEIM \u2013 University Consortium for Industrial and Managerial Economics (Italy)<\/strong> and involves the following partners: ADR Association for the Development of Rural Capacities (Lebanon), FTL Fair Trade Lebanon (Lebanon), IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation (Spain), MEDSEA Mediterranean Sea and Coast Foundation (Italy), Saida Society (Tunisia), UCA University of C\u00e1diz (Spain), and CTICI Tuniso-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Tunisia).<\/strong><\/p>\n
