CUEIM is participating as a partner in VERDEinMED – PreVEnting and ReDucing the tExtiles waste mountain in the MED area, an innovative European project supporting the transition towards a circular textile economy across the Mediterranean area.
Funded by the Interreg Euro-MED Programme under the 6th Call for Thematic Projects (Test Projects – Test to Transfer – Fast Lane), the project officially entered its Transfer Phase on 1 July 2026. The Transfer activities will continue until December 2027, followed by the final closure and reporting phase, with the official project end scheduled for March 2028.
VERDEinMED focuses on the transfer, adaptation, and integration of the VERDEinMED Support Service, an integrated framework combining governance models, policy guidance, operational tools, stakeholder coordination mechanisms, and digital knowledge resources to support the implementation of circular textile solutions.
Through cooperation among research organisations, public authorities, business support organisations, clusters, waste management operators, SMEs, and other relevant stakeholders, VERDEinMED aims to strengthen regional ecosystems and foster the adoption of sustainable practices in the textile sector.
The textile industry is facing increasing challenges related to waste prevention, resource efficiency, and compliance with the evolving European regulatory framework for sustainable and circular textiles. In this context, VERDEinMED supports Mediterranean territories in adopting proven solutions that promote textile waste prevention, the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems, and the integration of circular economy principles into regional policies and business practices.
Building on solutions successfully developed and validated during the first implementation phase, the current Transfer Phase aims to enable new territories to adopt, co-adapt, and institutionalise these solutions according to their specific policy, operational, and market contexts.
The project will pursue several objectives, including:
- transferring and adapting the VERDEinMED Support Service to new Mediterranean territories;
- strengthening the capacity of public authorities, business support organisations, SMEs, and waste management stakeholders through co-creation and capacity-building activities;
- supporting governance models for textile waste prevention, circular economy practices, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR);
- facilitating the integration of circular textile solutions into regional policies, organisational procedures, and territorial ecosystems;
- promoting stakeholder cooperation through the Knowledge Platform and the VERDE HUBS, ensuring long-term sustainability and institutional uptake of project results.
Among the main expected outputs are the development of a Transfer Toolkit, providing practical support for the adaptation and implementation of circular textile solutions; the availability of a Knowledge Platform offering methodologies, operational tools, training materials, and policy resources; the establishment of VERDE HUBS as regional ecosystems for cooperation, knowledge exchange, and innovation; and the definition of policy recommendations, uptake agreements, and sustainability strategies to ensure the long-term integration and replication of project results.
CUEIM contributes to the project by supporting cooperation among research organisations, institutions, businesses, and territorial stakeholders, helping to promote knowledge exchange and the adoption of innovative approaches for sustainable and circular textile systems.
VERDEinMED brings together partners from Greece, Italy, Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Bulgaria, coordinated by CERTH – The Centre for Research & Technology, Hellas, with the participation of eight project partners and six associated partners.
The project has a total budget of €3,648,507.00, with 80% (€2,918,805.60) co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg Euro-MED Programme. For Italian partners, including CUEIM, national co-financing is provided through the Fondo di Rotazione CIPESS.
